I'm Geena, a Computer Science student at Cornell University - making me a female in STEM (and a proud one at that!). I created this blog because the further I continue my education and career path search, the more I encounter some unfortunate things that women in STEM go through.
Computer Science is one of the most popular majors in colleges and career choices in general. If you come across a CS student, I am positive that some of them will say that they're in it for the money, some will say they're just good at it so "why not," and a lucky few will say that they actually like it. Full nerd disclosure - I love computer science. I am not the greatest at it, and I'm not really sure where my career path will go, but so far learning computer science has been amazing. The logic behind it, the endless potential projects, the development and improvement of the field - it really does fascinate me.
I am in a field that I love. But just because I love the study, surely doesn't mean I love the atmosphere. The stories you will hear, and some that you could even experience yourself about being a woman in the man-cave of STEM are more than just a little frustrating.
I started off my STEMinist passion with just some personal thoughts. I would jot them down here and there and I would always wish I had a bigger place to put these ideas. So that's what I'm doing. Please remember that I am just a college girl with some opinions - I will not get everything right and I might miss a few points here and there. I'm ALWAYS open to discussion and changing my point of view, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
With that, welcome to my first ever blog!!
